Serves victims of the following types of crimes
Domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and teen dating violence.
Services provided to victims
WomenSpirit does not provide direct advocacy services to victims and survivors, the Coalition provides resource information to link to those entities and individuals. Our mission is primarily providing education, awareness, and consultation to allies, tribal nations et al. As a Coalition we assess service needs & gaps and with Native Women develop strategies to meet those needs. We create agendas based upon a collective process of grassroots organizing. Then inform governing bodies & allies of the most effective means to end violence against Native women.
Coalition services include:
- Consultation on domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and teen dating violence in Indian Country
- Development of task forces and focus groups
- Conducting community needs assessments
- Development of mentoring and leadership projects
- Summits, conferences and workshops
- VAWA updates and implementation in Indian Country
Organizational Status
WS Coalition is a private, non-profit corporation registered in the State of Washington. We are an Inter-Tribal Coalition, an OVW-funded Tribal Coalition and a Minority Women-Owned Business.
Professional Alliances
- WSC staff are members of the Affiliated Tribes of the Northwest (ATNI). ATNI serves Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Nevada, California & Alaska. Our E.D. is Co-chair of the Law and Justice Committee. ATNI is a non profit organization of Tribes and tribal organizations.
