Washington State Native American Coalition against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
		The Coalition does not offer direct services to victims; instead, our goal is to support tribal and non-tribal programs and staff in their work: social services, law enforcement, courts, advocates, treatment providers and ally organizations in order to increase safety for Native victims. WomenSpirit Services   Tribal Services Coalition staff can assist in the development of culturally based prevention and intervention practices/models that are tailored to communities.   May respond to core services/crisis response needs in a variety of ways specific to their own community. We participate in local, state, and national coalitions, task forces, committees to end violence against native women and carry member voices forward.   May participate in committees and task forces, as resources allow. We identify partnerships, allies and opportunities for pursuing new streams of funding and support for member programs. We can apply for certain grants that may fill in the gaps for tribal needs.   Tribes may have access to knowledgeable planners and grant writers on issues related to domestic violence and sexual assault, stalking, sex offender registration, offender treatment, and victim resources. We consult and act as a clearinghouse for statewide and national information of interest to the Native community. May be able to be the extension of a tribal program.   Tribal services may be limited in scope due to existing resources We expand capacity to communicate on a statewide basis by offering video conferencing of training and meetings.   May participate (as part of a larger group/network) which moves priorities from local to statewide to national voice. We identify change agents and encourage participation in policy setting to inform policy and practice while promoting sovereignty.   Tribally based programs and staff may be the change agents to direct the focus by local, state and national fronts. We research legal, medical, criminal justice and social responses that are effective and culturally based.   May have the opportunity to relay experiences and stories of relevance to inform relevant research. We brief appropriate entities on status of our progress toward identifying gaps and resources.   Tribes will have the option to assign members to the Coalition and participate in the networking/planning meetings. We train on issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and teen dating violence.   Enhance your training for staff and management. Note to Tribal Councils- Tribal Nations may consider passing a Tribal Resolution for Tribal Membership in the Coalition. The Coalition encourages participation of law enforcement and social services as the core providers within the scope of providing safety and services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In an effort to promote creating a coordinated community response to family violence, we support many different entities and individuals participating in our work groups and workshops. As such we do not require a member fee, but do welcome donations. Opportunities to serve may include eligibility for serving as an Executive Business Committee Member of the Coalition, volunteer assignment to one of three sub-committees, and participation in an advisory capacity to Coalition projects.
